University of Belgrade, Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković", National Institute of Republic of Serbia

Nevena Grdović graduated in 1998 at the Department of Molecular Biology and Physiology, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, Serbia. She defended master's thesis in 2002, and PhD thesis at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade in 2007. Since 1999, she is at the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" - National Institute of Republic of Serbia (IBISS), University of Belgrade, where she received the title of Senior Research Associate. She has been engaged as a lecturer in the “Molecular Cell Biology” and “Epigenetics” in PhD studies in Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and has been engaged as a mentor in master's and doctoral thesis. She is a member of Serbian Biochemical Society, Serbian Biological Society and Serbian Society for Molecular Biology. She is a co-author of 63 publications from SCI list. Her research field covers involvement of epigenetic mechanisms, in particular DNA methylation in various pathophysiological processes. Lately, her focus is on process of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) which is an indispensable part of wound healing and pathophysiological processes such as organ fibrosis and cancer progression. Her research is devoted to unveiling regulatory role of DNA methylation in expression of genes that are critically important for EMT induction with the final aim of manipulation with EMT process through editing of DNA methylation patterns.
