University of Belgrade, Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering

Sanja Jeremic (born Bajkic) was born in Belgrade 36 years ago. She finished elementary school in Moscow and High school and Faculty of Biology in Belgrade. She did an experimental part of her graduation thesis "GrmA Methyltransferase Expression from Micromonospora purpurea" at the Laboratory for Molecular Genetics and Ecology of Microorganisms at the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, University of Belgrade, where she was employed in 2007 after graduation. In the same year, she enrolled in doctoral studies at the Faculty of Biology, and defended her doctoral thesis on "Mechanisms of tolerance of free-living bacteria and bacteria in biofilms to heavy metals" in 2013. Following her doctorate, she focused her research on the study of biotechnologically important enzymes in bacteria and the possibility of their application in industrial processes. She is currently studying biomaterials, their degradability, cytotoxicity, and their potential use as an enzyme immobilizers. Sanja Jeremic is actively involved in working with students, and in addition to managing a doctoral dissertation, she leads high school students and students interested in scientific research. In addition, she is dedicated to the promotion and popularization of science in Serbia, and has directed the Night of the Researchers and Science Combi-nation projects.
