Dr Jasmina Nikodinovic-Runic is a principal research scientist at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), University of Belgrade (UB), Serbia. She received PhD in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, in 2004.

She has been postdoctoral research scientist in the Department of Chemistry, University of Montana (UoM), MT, USA in the period from 2004-2006 and a senior postdoctoral fellow at University College Dublin (UCD), Dublin, Ireland from 2006-2010.

Author of more than 100 articles in leading peer-reviewed journals, 2 book chapters, and 4 patents.

Currently, Dr Nikodinovic-Runic is a principal research scientist in the Laboratory for microbial molecular genetics and ecology (IMGGE, UB). Dr Nikodinovic-Runic has been a supervisor of 10 PhD students, 8 MSc students and 10 diploma students and involved in establishment of spin-off company Bioplastech Ltd. (Dublin, Ireland).

She is leading IMGGE team that is member of EU-China flagship H2020 Project- Bio Innovation of a Circular Economy for Plastics (BioICEP).

Research interest and experience: Microbial biotechnology (bacterial fermentations, strain improvement, Streptomyces spp., Pseudomonas spp.); biocatalysis (protein expression and directed evolution, tautomerases, laccasses, biotransformations, biocatalytic process development and optimization); Bacterial bioactive secondary metabolites (biopigments, antifungal and anticancer compounds); Novel materials (biopolymers, polyhydroxyalkanoates, functionalization of biopolymers).
